The charger is only one part of the installation
An EV charging project includes equipment, a suitable connection and an assessment of the property supply. ESA advises using approved charging equipment, a dedicated circuit and outdoor-rated equipment where needed. The contractor should evaluate the proposed load and explain whether the supply, a load-management arrangement or another design is suitable. Do not choose a circuit from the charger advertising alone.
Prepare the scope for your Toronto property
Prepare the parking-space identifier, charger model if chosen, and a description of who owns the parking and electrical infrastructure. Explain whether the request is for one vehicle or part of a broader building charging plan.
Ask how approvals, metering, load management and the route to the space will be resolved. A quote should distinguish an individual installation from shared infrastructure or electrical work controlled by the building.
What should the assessment establish?
Resolve the parking-space authority before treating a charging quote as ready to proceed. A contractor may be able to describe an individual charger connection while the building still needs to decide how a common cable route, metering or shared capacity will be managed. These are separate deliverables. Request a drawing or clear written route description that the responsible building contact can review. If permission changes the available location, have the contractor reassess the installation instead of moving the unit informally. The agreed work should identify who maintains the equipment after installation.
Questions before you agree to work
Can an existing garage outlet be used automatically?
An outlet or earlier provision needs to be assessed against the actual equipment and current installation. Its presence does not confirm approval, circuit capacity or suitability for the charging arrangement.
What paperwork should I request?
Ask the contractor about the ESA notification before installation and request the Certificate of Acceptance after the applicable review. Keep the equipment documentation and agreed operating information as well.
